Common Automatic Garage Door Problems

Over time, hinges between the panels or the brackets that support the rollers may loosen. When this happens, the door might become misaligned within the tracks, causing it to move unevenly. This can lead to the door scraping and squealing as the opener forces it open or closed, rather than allowing it to roll smoothly. Tightening the mounting screws is usually a simple fix, but if the bracket or hinge hole is worn out, it’s best to call a professional for repairs.

Another common issue arises with the garage door opener. Even if the door is in perfect working condition, a malfunctioning opener can prevent it from operating properly. One of the most common problems is a door that won’t open or close — no movement, no noise, nothing. This is often due to the remote being too far from the opener or a weak or dead battery in the remote.

Check the power supply if the opener seems to be receiving a signal but doesn’t respond. The power may be off if the opener light won’t turn on. In this case, check the circuit breaker to see if it’s tripped. On rare occasions, reprogramming the remote may be necessary.
